This year’s Soquel Camp Meeting had a powerful spiritual impact on those who attended, and this included the youth and young adults. The youth group, led by Timmy Baze (pastor at Chowchilla and Madera Seventh-day Adventist Church) and Janet Abbey (founder and director of STAND4 Global), and the young adult group, led by Kendra Miranda (Young Adult Community leader for the Central California Conference), were instrumental in making this camp meeting a unique 10-day camp meeting filled with spiritual insights and direct impact on the thousands of attendees.
The youth and young adult teams were integral in helping some of the people camping who were in need of assistance, including providing food, blankets, and a spiritual connection. With over 100 attendees, the youth group was able to serve those camping who were in need, and the young adult group had over 400 attendees who served the campers in need.
Other parts of the youth and young adult ministries during camp meeting included morning breakfast devotionals, worship and art meetings, Bible studies, and baptisms. The Bible studies dove deeply into scripture, helping those involved learn how to study the Bible and grow enamored with the God of the Bible, explained Kendra Miranda. This involved taking into account the context of a scripture, reading slowly and absorbing the information, comparing scripture with scripture (reinforcing instead of redirecting), and revealing the love of Christ through each scripture. “God is at work in the hearts of young adults, your young adults!” added Miranda.
Anil Kanda, youth and young adult director for the Central California Conference, said, “These young adults and pastors are devoted to the Kingdom, and I am profoundly thankful for each of them. God performed a mighty work this year, and all glory belongs to Him.”
Shirlene Chadwick, who attended the Soquel Camp Meeting, said, “I loved hearing you all singing from my trailer the whole week long. Keep up the stewardship of this beautiful gift you have been given. The reward will be astounding in eternity. Thank you to each and every one of you who give of your time to our youth!”
