CERES, Calif. — Seventh grader Blake Jimenez returned home from Camp Wawona this summer with a renewed passion for God and a deeper understanding of his faith.

Jimenez, a student at Whitmore Charter School of the Arts and Technology in Ceres, attended the Christian camp from June 27 to July 4. While he enjoys fitness, weightlifting, and healthy living, Blake says nothing compares to the spiritual strength he discovered during his week at camp.
“Attending Camp Wawona was spiritually powerful,” Blake shared. He was especially impacted by the camp speaker, who explained the Bible in a way that was both easy to understand and deeply meaningful.
Blake also formed strong connections with his two counselors, Robert and David. Each evening, Robert prayed individually with the campers—a practice that left a lasting impression. One testimony especially touched Blake’s heart: Robert shared how God’s love had healed the pain of his own abusive past, teaching him that true love can only be found in Christ. That message helped Blake see just how much God loves him and is always present in his life.
Another highlight of the week came through a moving reenactment of Christ’s crucifixion, performed by camp staff. The dramatic presentation brought the gospel story to life and made it deeply personal for Blake. On the final day, campers were invited to symbolically write their names in the Book of Life. For Blake, this act felt like a personal recommitment to following God’s plan.
Blake’s parents say they have seen a remarkable transformation since his return. “He came home with a renewed passion for God,” they shared. “We’re so thankful for everything Camp Wawona has done for Blake. It’s been a true blessing in his life.”
Blake continues to keep in touch with many of the boys from his cabin, cherishing the friendships formed during his time at camp. Looking ahead, he is eager to return next summer and even hopes to one day serve as a counselor himself—helping other young people experience the same life-changing encounter with Christ.
