Ed Walker Appointed Volunteer Prayer Ministries Coordinator

A Journey From Fear to Faith

Ed Walker has spent a lifetime in the Seventh‑day Adventist Church, but his commitment crystallized during college. “Everyone wrestles with the big questions—Does God exist? Does He know me?—and I was no different,” he recalls. A year at Pacific Union College, followed by studies at Fresno State, put those questions to the test.

Walker even flirted with the hope that evolution would make God irrelevant, freeing him from a faith he felt he could never live up to. “I wasn’t very good at being good,” he admits. Yet the atheistic lens of his science professors only drove him back to Scripture.

Confronting Glossophobia

Though active in his local Chowchilla church, Walker quietly refused any role that required public speaking; glossophobia—an acute fear of the stage—kept him anchored to the pew. That ended when a pastor asked him to serve as head elder. “If God wanted me up front, He would’ve given me the skill,” Walker protested. The pastor simply asked him to pray.

One Sabbath, while trembling through another platform assignment, Walker whispered, Lord, fix this or I quit. Instantly, the fear vanished. That answered prayer reshaped his view of intercession.

Discovering the Power of Corporate Prayer

Walker’s wife, Lisa, soon introduced him to a prayer‑ministries workshop. Reluctant at first, he found himself under the tutelage of veteran prayer leader Janet Page. “Janet handed me a notebook and said, ‘Listen and take notes,’” Walker laughs. He listened—and watched small congregations flourish through united prayer.

Convicted, he and Lisa reshaped their own church service, adding an extended prayer segment and interceding for new members. Attendance surged from fewer than 30 to well over 100. Prayer, Walker realized, was mission-critical.

Serving the Conference

Drawn into the Central California Conference prayer team, the Walkers helped spearhead initiatives that lifted evangelism offerings and energized local churches. When longtime coordinator Joyce Mulligan relocated to Northern California, Ed and Lisa Walker continued the work—hosting prayer conferences and leading a weekly intercessory Zoom call.

Recognizing his leadership and unwavering commitment, the Central California Conference Executive Committee voted on March 22, 2025, to appoint Ed Walker as the Volunteer Prayer Ministries Coordinator. Lisa continues as his indispensable partner.

Vision: A Conference on Its Knees

Walker’s dream is simple yet sweeping: a culture where prayer—especially corporate prayer—undergirds every ministry.

“God never forces blessings on people who don’t ask,” he says. “When an entire conference family joins in unified intercession, Heaven’s resources are unleashed in ways private prayer alone cannot match.”

He envisions members praying together for revival, robust evangelism offerings and Spirit‑led growth across every department—from children’s ministries to education.

How You Can Participate

• Join the weekly prayer call. Every Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT, prayer partners gather on Zoom to intercede for conference leadership, upcoming events, and spiritual revival. Everyone is welcome.

Meeting ID: 391 339 3426 Passcode: 596233

Strengthen local prayer teams. Walker urges each church to appoint or reaffirm a prayer leader, then schedule regular times—however small the group—to pray for attendance, spiritual renewal and community impact.

Attend the annual Prayer Conference. This weekend gathering equips believers with practical tools for fostering a “house of prayer” culture in their congregations. Watch conference channels for dates and registration.

“Corporate prayer isn’t a program,” Walker reminds us. “It’s the lifeblood of a movement that longs to see God move.” Under his leadership, that movement now has a fresh champion—one who once feared the microphone, but now speaks boldly about the power of united petition.
