After more than three decades of dedicated service, Shirley Meyers will retire from the Central California Conference at the end of August, leaving behind a legacy of faith, friendship, and commitment.
Meyers began her employment with the conference on Nov. 21, 1989, joining the treasury department as a payroll clerk. For 26 years, she managed payroll, a role she said she loved because of the regular contact it gave her with pastors, teachers, and colleagues across the field. She also served in human resources and later supported both the education department and the receptionist desk. In each role, she brought warmth, dedication, and a spirit of service.
“I enjoyed doing payroll because I liked the interaction with people,” Meyers said. “It gave me the chance to connect with our employees on a personal level.”
Reflecting on her career, Meyers said she originally thought she would stay just a few years. “When I started here, I had just turned 40 and thought I’d be here for five years,” she said. “But I’ve been here more than 30 years, and I’ve truly enjoyed it.”
Meyers emphasized that her work was more than just a job.
“I’ve enjoyed working for the Lord and realizing this is His work, not mine,” she said. “Whatever you do, remember it’s God’s work, and do your best. One day, God will ask us how we treated our fellow man and how we carried out His work.”
As she steps into retirement, Meyers looks forward to more time with family, friends, and her community.
“I’m thankful for the years I’ve had here,” she said. “It’s been a blessing.”
The Central California Conference expresses deep appreciation to Shirley Meyers for her many years of faithful service. We celebrate her dedication and the impact she has made on colleagues and church members alike. As she begins this new chapter, may we continue to lift her in prayer—asking for God’s blessings, guidance, and joy in the journey ahead.
