Teen Guys Retreat at Camp Wawona Inspires Commitment, Courage, and Faith

ree

Nearly 80 young men from across the Central California Conference gathered at Camp Wawona for this year’s Teen Guys Retreat—an uplifting weekend filled with worship, mentorship, and hands-on learning set against the beauty of Yosemite National Park.

The featured speaker, Chad Lambie, delivered a powerful message drawn from his extraordinary personal journey. Born with Cleidocranial Dysplasia/Dysostosis (CCD)—a rare genetic condition affecting bone development—Lambie grew up without collarbones and with skull plates that never fused. Despite these significant physical challenges, he went on to complete the rigorous Navy Special Warfare Selection Program, becoming the only person diagnosed with CCD to serve as a Navy SEAL.

Lambie encouraged attendees to pursue discipline, resilience, and godly leadership. He shared that when he first became a Christian, he saw few examples of strong, faith-driven men in the church and committed himself to becoming one. Today, he leads the No Excuses Project, motivating individuals to overcome adversity through faith, perseverance, and personal responsibility.

Throughout the retreat, participants engaged in a full program that included worship services, small-group Bible studies, physical conditioning, sports, CPR certification training, auto mechanics workshops, discussions on healthy relationships, and creative object lessons. Ideal fall weather and dedicated staff contributed to a memorable and meaningful experience—especially for the many first-time attendees.

One of the most significant highlights of the weekend was the spiritual response. Nine teens made decisions to follow Jesus for the first time. Each has been paired with a staff mentor and is now participating in Bible studies in preparation for baptism.

As the retreat came to a close, enthusiasm remained high—and one question echoed across camp: “When is next year’s retreat?”
