Bakersfield, CA — For nearly 20 years, Bakersfield Hillcrest Seventh-day Adventist Church has faithfully served the city’s most vulnerable through its longstanding Homeless and Help Ministries. With a dedicated team of approximately 20 volunteers, the ministry provides vital resources and hope to the homeless and underserved communities throughout Bakersfield.
Each month, on the last Sabbath, volunteers gather at 2:00 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall to prepare care packages for approximately 100 individuals. These outreach bags include essentials such as bottled water, snacks, sandwiches, GLOW tracts, and hygiene kits. Depending on the season, the ministry also distributes hats, blankets, and gloves to help those on the streets endure the elements.
The ministry team conducts its outreach directly in local parks and homeless encampments, ensuring personal and compassionate connections with those they serve. Their mission extends beyond food and hygiene—it's about sharing dignity, kindness, and faith.
In addition to their monthly outreach, the ministry provides school supplies to local children at the start of the academic year. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, they offer grocery gift cards to families in need, helping bring comfort and relief during the holidays.
This quiet but impactful ministry continues to be a beacon of compassion and service, reflecting the church’s commitment to meeting both physical and spiritual needs in the community.
