On Purpose: Young Adults Rediscover Identity and Calling at Soquel

Over 160 young adults, ages 18-36, gathered at Soquel Campground for a powerful and purpose-filled retreat centered on the theme, “ON PURPOSE”.  Attendees came from all over California, neighboring states, and even as far away as Connecticut.  They arrived hungry for connection, clarity and spiritual renewal and they left deeply encouraged and challenged.

The weekend speaker, Benjamin Lundquiest, brought dynamic and practical messages that resonated with the entire group.  As an international speaker, author, influencer and founder of Rise and Lead, which reaches more than one million followers, Benjamin spoke directly to identity and calling.  He opened the weekend by saying, “Connection without identity is confusion.”  He reminded us there is a difference between our calling and our career.  Our calling cannot be contained by our career.

He challenged attendees to consider the negative thoughts many of us rehearse about ourselves, often speaking words over our lives that God never said.  “If God didn’t say it about you, you shouldn’t say it about yourself.” Lundquist urged the group to, “Crush your now so you can be set up for your next.”  It was a clear call to intentional living.  He encouraged the young adults to know both who they are and whose they are.

CCC’s Youth and Young Adult Director, Pastor Delinda Hamilton, shared, “The retreat reached deep into the heart of our identity and reminded us of who we are called to become.”

Beyond the main sessions, the weekend was filled with connection and fun-filled moments.  The auditorium transformed into vibrant social space with pickleball, basketball, football and laughter.  During “Mix and Mingle,” new friendships were formed and old ones strengthened as attendees took time to truly connect.

Worship, Bible study, delicious food, beach time, early morning prayer, and even exercise sessions rounded out the experience. Many shared that the retreat was exactly what they needed—a reminder of their identity and renewed clarity of purpose.  One attendee summed it up best, “God has a way of sending the right person with the right message at the right time… and my time is now.”
